My first swap!
as i had mentioned in an earlier post i was emailed a while back by someone who was looking for a good home for her old issues of Craft and Adorn magazines. (really...she was soooo incredibly generous, and i'm so lucky to have come in contact with her!!!) we decided that in exchange for the magazines i'd make her a Kimberly bag. the hardest part was trying to decide which fabric to use! i finally settled on Sandi Henderson's tortoise plaid breeze. it's something i bought a while back but hadn't cut into yet because i didn't know what purse to make out of it!! the good news is i had enough for the swap, AND enough to make one more (which of course i haven't yet, but that is the plan!) the inside is just a solid brown, but i did add some little beads to the zipper pull ( my little cousin said she wished the zipper was slightly larger when i gave her her bags, so i thought the beads could dress the purse up a little and help with pulling on the zipper!)
and in return these are all the goodies i got!!! (they even came wrapped up so cute-i looooved the flower!) it's been such a week, i've hardly had a chance to really go through them all, but i have been able to skim and i like what i see!!! i'm so excited! this week has been a great week for mail!! first the marie claire idees, now this!!
I love surprises!
every now and then i'll get an occasional comment on my blog or email that will leave me BEAMING from ear to ear! when i first started this blog i was a little hesitant (mainly because i didn't know if i'd actually go on it). my husband encouraged me to do it. afterall, he was the one that got me the sewing machine, and he knew how excited these projects made me. i don't think either of us realized how much fun i'd have and i certainly didn't think that i'd grow to love some of you guys as much as i do!! my google reader list has expanded tremendously and there are sites that even though i know aren't updated daily, i am constantly clicking on them...just in case!
this weekend i received an email from someone who was searching for the Amy Butler Porfolio, which i have made several times. she came across my blog and had nothing but nice words to say! she had also read some of my older posts and saw how bummed i was that Adorn magazine was no longer in print. so what did she do? offered me some of her old copies of Adorn and Craft Magazine!!!!!! how great is that?!!! she is also from the DC area (which kind of surprised me even more that she was being so generous! i mean, i've lived here my whole life and i can't even get someone to say thank you when i hold a door open for them, let alone someone offering me something of theirs! my husband always jokes that he doesn't know how i turned out to be so nice living in this area and that i'm too much of a pushover!) in return for the magazines she had mentioned we could do a swap! so i'm going to make her a Kimberly bag! now the hard part is deciding what fabric to use!!
Another sad goodbye!
well, first it was Adorn Magazine. now i just found out one of my favorite websites that i've been gushing about is no longer up! Tastespotting has been removed!
i thought it was funny how the last couple days there were no new posts added. i just figured maybe something was down on the site! what bums me out even more is that i haven't bookmarked many of the recipes i wanted to try, i always just figured i'd hop back on, search it, and voila, there it would be!!! now i guess i have to find another food blog to get addicted to!

No More Adorn Magazine!

well i'm bummed! when i just started sewing this past winter i had found a magazine that i thought would be great fun to get ideas from- has been canceled! i was anxiously anticipating the new spring issue since it only comes out a few times a year, but unfortunately it turns out that the Adorn Magazine will no longer be in print! what a bummer! i guess i'll have to order the old copies online! but if anyone knows of any other magazines as such that are worth investing in, please leave a comment!!! i've heard that Craft: Magazine isn't bad...but i haven't gotten myself a copy of this yet...
