Toddler Pinnafore Dress

a few weeks back i started making some spring/summer dresses for my niece. my sister is totally not a girlie girl, so having her daughter in dresses is a pretty big thing!! (granted, half the time my niece wears her really girlie outfits wearing a pair of Converse All*Stars or some Vans!)

i found this fabric at Joann’s and when i first saw it, i really liked it. i didn’t buy it until a few months later, and when i brought it home and was staring at it, i decided i didn’t like it as much!!  then i started cutting it and decided i liked it again and couldn’t figure out what else to make with it!!

i figured the fabric would be cute for a kid’s dress because even though it had flowers and polka dots, the color scheme wasn’t the least bit girlie, so i knew it’d be perfect for my niece!! with this style i added ribbons for the shoulder straps- though you can use buttons too! (i have another dress that is 98% finished, that i’ll post soon!!)

this dress is a bit larger than i expected it to be! my niece usually wears 18-24 month clothes, so i made the dress in a size 2. it hangs all the way down to her ankles, so i’m hoping it’ll shrink a bit when i wash it (i was bad and didn’t preshrink the fabric first, so i’m hoping it’ll get smaller!!) i’ll def make sure that i stick to the size 1 for her other summer dresses!
