Darn those third molars!
well…i finally had my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday! better late than never i guess! but in my defense i didn’t even know i had wisdom teeth till i was about 23! the doctors kept saying how when you’re older, there could be more complications and a longer recovery time…fun fun… (even though i’m only 28, i didn’t think that was THAT old!) when i went in for the consultation before i was put under, my husband was in the room with me, and i think the oral surgeon scared him a bit! after seeing the xrays it showed how close my teeth were to my nerves, which would make the procedure a bit trickier. he said the whole time he was in the waiting area he felt nauseous! (aww, so sweet of him to worry!) and i think the fact that the procedure also took a bit longer than they expected. (apparently the noon appointment had shown up and i think she was a little annoyed that i was the cause of her wait…whatever!) i’ve never been put under before, or really on any kind of heavy medication, so i was definitely a light weight! the last thing i remember the doctor and her team talking to me about was when they asked me what my husband did. i said he was a software programmer, and the doctor said, “OH, he’s very personable for a computer guy! most computer folks are…” to which i quickly responded, “dull?”
the procedure went pretty well…except for the fact that they couldn’t fully remove one of my teeth. turns out that that one was directly on top of a nerve, and everytime they tried to extract the last part of it, i’d start hemorhagging and they didn’t want to keep risking it, so i’ll actually have to go back in a month to get it removed again! (aghhh, i have to do this all over again?!!!)
all in all i’m doing pretty well! nauseous to say the least, and REALLY hungry! i want more than soup, smoothies, and yogurt!! it also doesn’t help that i’m constantly watching tv and all they show is food commercials! (i think my first meal might just be fried chicken! ohhh or sushi. pizza sounds good too. chicken parmesean? ummm, chocolate cupcakes! oh boy, i’m in trouble!) and the bad news is that because my mouth is so small, it got pretty stretched so now one side of my lip is cracked and split so i cannot open my mouth very wide! i’m literally eating my yogurt with baby spoons!

I’m 36 and I still don’t have my wisdom teeth. The dentist told me I probably will never get them now. I’m sorry the procedure was rough on you and I hope you fell better soon.

Hi! I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at around the same age as you too. It wasn’t so much fun, but Chinh took great care of me for a whole week and Joe was only 2 at the time! I stopped the Vicodin after the first day, because I didn’t like the way it made me feel. Yuck! I drank a lot of fruit smoothies and soups and he even got me my favorite Braun hand blender just so he can make me instant smoothies! I hope you recover soon and be able to eat all you can again. Sushi was my first solid food after two weeks of not so solid food:) Yummy!
