Cheat week!

i was really bad this week, and all my meals were pretty heavy in carbs! but boy were they good!!!! i’m really bummed i didn’t get around to taking a lot of the pictures- didn’t think to till after the fact! but i thought i’d tease you a bit and show you what my weekly menu consisted off! (my friends are always laughing because i plan my menu for the week, which is posted on my fridge- but hey, don’t knock it till you try it! it REALLY helps when i’m getting groceries and managing my schedule!)

Monday: vermicelli noodles with grilled pork, or in vietnamese: bun thit nuong. (i found this blog that has a recipe listed as well as a picture so i thought i’d share it in case you were interested! the recipe was very similar to what i did, but i didn’t have sake or use oyster sauce in my marinade, and i skewered and grilled the pork).

Tuesday: banh xeo (a vietnamese type crepe/pancake)

Wednesday: i made dinner for my sister so we had LOTS to eat this night! eggrolls, rice with glazed ribs, and canh chua (a sweet and sour type soup that you put on top of rice). again, i found this blog that has a recipe and picture listed in case you were interested! very similar to how i made mine, but not exact..this is a very traditional vietnamese meal i think. when i tell my husband about how i used to eat while living at home he kind of balks! my mom would make huge course meals. it wouldn’t just be rice and one dish, it would be rice, a vegetable side dish, a soup dish, and then the main meat/fish dish! how i wasn’t heavier when i was living at home was beyond me!!!

Thursday: every now and then i crave something that is typical off a dim sum cart! (darn them for closing the Fortune in Reston!!!)  today i made a radish cake. i followed this recipe (which by the way, if you haven’t visited this food blog, you MUST! tons of great recipes!) after steaming the cake, i like to pan fry it the way my mom does, where she adds slices of green onion, and an egg. then i dress it with a spicy soy sauce mixture.

i had some leftover rice and decided to make my sister a simple dinner by making shrimp fried rice!

Friday: no cooking today! hubby and i are treating ourselves to sushi at our favorite restauarant! :)   before we bought the house, and got married, we’d get sushi every friday night. now we’re lucky if we get it every other week!
