Sewing Essentials
my husband and i decided against gifts for valentine’s day this year. instead we did our usual splurge dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant…but then imagine my surprise when he decided to come with me on my saturday morning errands and ended up buying me all my goodies at the fabric store! i’ve been wanting a rotary cutter and mat board
for some time now. i was a little scared using it at first because i kept reading about how sharp the scissors were (well duh, of course they’re sharp- they’re scissors!) but found a great tutorial on the the purl bee website for rotary cutting. it definitely helped ease my mind on using the tools because it was so clearly laid out and had great pictures to go along with it! now i’ve been cutting perfectly clean, straight lines, which makes me very happy! the other tool i’ve invested in that i really love is the bias tape maker
. so far i only have the 1″ tape maker, but am definitely going to invest in a few other sizes! since i’ve been making the washcloths the tape maker has really come in handy because it’s made making the trims even easier! it makes a perfect fold that i just press along to trim my edges! it has also come in handy when i’m making my the handles for my tote bags! i think i’ve used the tape maker for practically every project i’ve worked on so far! i also just ordered two purse patterns that i’ve been eyeing for some time now. one of the patterns is by Amy Butler and the other is by Lazy Girl Designs. they should be arriving any day so hopefully i’ll have some new projects (that aren’t baby related!) to post! i also finished my Amy Butler large portfolio, but unfortunately will not be able to post the picture just yet! (i made it as a gift, so until it’s given i can’t ruin the surprise!) but i have to say, i’m really happy with the way it turned out! so stay tuned for the picture of the finished project!
